Really enjoyed this post by npck, "it's not social media - it's you & me" where they write about how an unhealthy community will persist regardless of the quality of the space it inhabit.
Really like this part, "i see people saying things like all social media is bad or one social media site is worse than another & that people should go to another specific site where the grass is greener & the water is sweeter - but i think if we bring all our old hangups & don't actually confront the ways we're making our community spaces online feel hostile to us, it'll just be the same old cycle."
It's what I think when I see Birsite BehaviorTM aka antisocial behavior on online spaces. There are spaces on Mastodon that feel just like the average X or Bluesky experience and I believe it's in part loose enforcement of community guidelines and another it's people bringing their unhealthy social habits and expectations. Which is why I'm so glad that my Masto instance is anything but that!!! And Pillowfort as well!!! I truly hit the jackpot ( *︾▽︾).
